AJANIA PACIFICA – AJANIA
If you are looking for a perennial plant that can withstand both the Mediterranean sun and the cold winters of Anatolia—one that remains evergreen, looks striking, and can be used as a groundcover—Ajania is the answer.
AJANIA: Ajania pacifica
(former name: Chrysanthemum pacificum)
Ajania is a perennial plant from the Asteraceae family. It is native to Central and Eastern Asia. It reaches 30–40 cm in height and 50–60 cm in width. The green leaves are edged with a silver band, making it a variegated plant.
It grows well in bright, sunny, or partially shaded locations. It tolerates both slightly acidic and slightly alkaline soils without issues. It is hardy down to –20°C and even lower.
In autumn, typically in October and November, it produces bright yellow flowers. These flowers attract bees, butterflies, and birds.
It can be propagated by seed, root division, or cuttings.
In landscaping, it is especially used as a groundcover in groups, as a border plant along walkways, or in mass plantings. It is also suitable for container use. It can be grown as a single potted plant or placed in multiple containers along pathways. Although not a trailing species, it creates an attractive display in balcony planters
