EICHHORNIA CRASSIPES – FLOATING WATER HYACINTH

One of the most beautiful aquatic plants, the Floating Water Hyacinth has glossy, round leaves, swollen stems, and long, black, tangled roots that float on the water, making it very eye-catching. Thanks to its air-filled stems, it floats effortlessly on the water surface. Its long black tangled roots provide an ideal habitat for fish breeding.

Its lavender-colored flowers bloom during the summer months. Being a tropical plant, it is not frost-tolerant. It is ideal for winter gardens and aquariums. In tropical regions, it reproduces very quickly in warm waters. Introduced to the Middle East and Africa via ship propellers, it has at times clogged waterways, even covering the Nile River and disrupting water traffic.

Propagation is done by separating the offsets produced by the plant. In our country, this plant is grown outdoors in pools during summer, but must be brought indoors during winter to protect it from cold.
