Cordia boissieri is a shrub or tree, in the Boraginaceae  (Borage) family. Plant is native from southern Texas  to central Mexico. Genus name Cordia comes from Valerius Cordus, a German botanist and pharmacist of the 16th century. Species name Boissieri comes from Pierre-Edmond Boissier, a 19th century Swiss botanist. Common names include: Anacahuita, Mexican Olive and Wild Olive.

Texas Wild Olive is an ornamental, evergreen or semi-evergreen shrub or tree up to 8 meters tall. The plant has a lifespan of 30–50 years. Typically, multi-trunked with drooping branches. The grey-green, ovate leaves are 10–15 cm long and 5–8 cm wide with cordate at base. It is evergreen but will lose leaves if it suffers frost damage. The plant blooms year-round but most profusely from late spring to early summer. White, trumpet shaped flowers are 5 cm long with yellow throats. Olive-like, 2-3 cm long, fleshy fruits are green then ripening to creamy white, they are edible but not tasty. Birds and cattle enjoy eaten the fruit.

Cordia boissieri prefers well-drained, moist soil and full to half-shady sun. It is not particular about soil. Aerosol salt tolerance is moderate. Regular watering necessary to establish it when young but once established it is drought tolerant. Propagation is done by seed or cutting. Texas Wild Olive if cultured as a shrub, need pruning lightly to shape. If it is cultured as a tree, then crown raise the base at a conservative pace to always leave a substantial canopy of foliage. Hardy to about -6 ºC. Plant will lose its leaves in a severe frost.

Use in Landscape: Cordia boissieri is a versatile plant adapted for use as a specimen tree or as an accent in a shrub border. Year-round, showy flowers make the plant suitable for placing in a lawn area as a free-standing specimen. It is appropriate for use in both oasis and xeric landscape design types.  It can be planted in a large container and kept looking nice for long years. May be used as a background screen.

A syrup made from the fruits is used to dye cloth and treat coughs. It is showy plant with white flowers that attract butterflies and hummingbirds. It is cultivated in Cuba as a medicinal plant.
