SUCCULENTS AND CACTUSES

Various cacti and succulent plants are cultivated in the gardens and greenhouses of the Palm Center. Here, special emphasis is placed on species that are being produced in Türkiye for the first time and on plants that are not yet widely known.

Among the interesting plants are the Pencil Tree (Euphorbia tirucalli), the Century Plant (Agave americana)—known in English as the “Century Plant” and used in the production of tequila—as well as various other Agave species. Also included are Beaucarnea species, commonly known under the trade name Nolina, the edible-fruited Natal Plum(Carissa macrocarpa), the Jade Plant (Crassula ovata), and various colorful and unusual Prickly Pear Cacti (Opuntiaspecies).

Although Aloe vera has been used medicinally around the world for more than 2,000 years, it has only recently become widely recognized in Türkiye, and large-scale production is carried out at the Center.

The Desert Rose (Adenium obesum) and the Silk Floss Tree (Chorisia speciosa) are remarkable plants admired for their exceptionally beautiful flowers. Other fascinating species include the Living Stones (Lithops) of South Africa, which are also part of the collection.
